Trade Routes: Co-Hosting a National Conversation on Indigenous Business

In 2023, I had the privilege of co-hosting an episode of RMIT’s Trade Routes podcast alongside the incredible Jaynaya Winmar. The conversation focused on Indigenous business, international trade, and building pathways for Aboriginal enterprises to grow across borders.

As co-hosts, we explored what it means to lead with culture in global markets, and how trade isn’t just about economics — it’s about sovereignty, opportunity, and long-term impact.

From Local to Global: A New Era of First Nations Trade

We talked about the unique strengths of Indigenous businesses and the importance of creating culturally safe and commercially strong trade environments. A highlight was sharing the story of how, during the height of COVID, SupplyAus imported 120 tonnes of hand sanitiser for Woolworths — a bold, urgent move that demonstrated the power of Indigenous supply chain leadership at scale.

This episode wasn’t just a conversation — it was a call to action. A reminder that Indigenous business isn’t a side story in the Australian economy — it’s a growing force, locally and globally.
