A Life Led by Culture, a Mission to Change Systems
Shawn Andrews.
MBA (EXEC) AGSM, BSOR
Jingeri means hello in Yugembeh — the language of my people.
Shawn Andrews is a proud Mununjali and Migunberri man, cultural strategist, speaker, and founder of Buneen Group — a First Peoples-led collective working to end Indigenous disadvantage through systems change.
With over 20 years of experience across government, education, justice, and community sectors, Shawn leads work that transforms not just people, but the systems that surround them.
My Life’s Work
Shawn’s career has been shaped by the legacy of his grandmothers and the wisdom of Elders, grounded in truth-telling, care, and cultural accountability.
He has walked through systems that were never built for First Peoples and emerged not just to critique them, but to rebuild them — with culture at the centre.
As the founder of Buneen Group, Shawn leads three aligned entities:
Buneen Consulting – Cultural safety, truth-telling, governance, and strategic facilitation
Buneen Employment – Job pathways, workplace change, and long-term support
Dreaming Futures – Healing and cultural reconnection for Aboriginal children in care
All of this work is driven by the SAFE Method — a framework Shawn developed to embed cultural safety across five domains:
Self, Agency, Family, Community, and Organisation.
What Drives Me
Shawn’s leadership is shaped not only by his professional expertise but by lived experience. He has overcome addiction, built and rebuilt businesses, and walked with community through grief, healing, and reform.
He has:
Led cultural audits for national organisations
Facilitated high-trust truth-telling processes
Coached young people in care
Supported boards through governance transformation
Built partnerships with government and community grounded in long-term impact
He believes kindness is strategy, truth is structure, and that safe systems are the only systems worth building.
